Internal Medicine Residents

Jacob McKuin, D.O.

Jacob McKuin was born and raised in the Poplar Bluff area and began his career as a registered nurse before attending medical school at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Why did you choose the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Internal Medicine Program?
Jacob chose the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Internal Medicine Program because of its strong commitment to training physicians who can provide high-quality care in rural and underserved communities. Having grown up in this area, he understands both the challenges and the importance of access to thoughtful, comprehensive medical care. The program’s close-knit environment and supportive faculty stood out to him, as they foster both clinical excellence and meaningful mentorship. He was also drawn to the opportunity to train in a setting where he can develop a broad skill set and take on real responsibility, preparing him to practice confidently in a rural community.

What impacts do you hope to have in the medical field?
Jacob hopes to make a meaningful impact by providing care that is both clinically excellent and deeply human. He wants his patients to feel heard, understood, and confident in their care, especially in settings where resources may be limited. Long term, he aims to serve rural communities like the one he was raised in by improving access to care and addressing the broader factors that influence health, including lifestyle, environment, and education. He also hopes to contribute to building stronger, healthier communities by practicing medicine in a way that integrates physical, mental, and social well-being.
