Dr. Kiptoo Sammin attended medical school at Moi University College of Health Sciences in Kenya. He grew up in Eldoret, a town well known for producing world-class long-distance runners—something he jokes must have built his endurance, if not for running, then for the long journey through medicine. His experiences growing up shaped his perspective on healthcare and instilled in him the importance of personalized, patient-centered care. His hometown in the United States is Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Why did you choose the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Internal Medicine Program?
I chose this program because it offers a unique learning environment as the hospital’s only residency program. This provides greater opportunities for hands-on clinical experience without competing for cases, while also enabling more focused teaching and mentorship by faculty. I was also drawn to the warm and welcoming environment I experienced during my interview, particularly the way Dr. Riffle and Dr. Njoh made us applicants feel comfortable and valued.
What impacts do you hope to have on the medical field?
I aim to contribute to the advancement of medicine in a meaningful way, whether through research, dedicated patient care focused on improving patient experience, or efforts to reduce morbidity and mortality within my community. I am committed to making a positive impact and moving the field forward in my own way.
